About Easy Search
This form provides quick access to the most popular content in LexisNexis Academic. The Easy Search page is the default screen. As you can see, there are six widgets on the Easy Search form. This combination of widgets should help you accomplish most basic research tasks such as:
- Search news stories
- Find a legal case by Citation or Party Name
- Find a company profile by Name or Ticker Symbol
- Find a country profile
- Research a person
- Do a broad search across different types of sources
Search the News
The "Search the News" widget allows you to do a general news search by topic. One box is provided for you to input your search term and two other boxes are provided for you to select a source. Selecting a specific source type or a specific source will narrow your results set and bring you more relevant results. You may select a group source from the drop-down box, such as:
- Major World Publications
- Newspapers
- Magazines
- Wire Services
- Broadcast Transcripts
- Blogs
- All News
Or, you can start typing your source name in the second input box. The auto-complete technology will show you the most popular sources that match your input. If your source is not found, simply click the "Sources" link on the widget to go to the Source Directory. From here, you can search through our over 13,000 sources to find the exact one you need.
For a more precise search and the ability to select Boolean Operators such as BYLINE() and HLEAD(), click the link provided to navigate to the All News form.
Look up a Legal Case
This widget allows you to find a legal case by citation number or party name. If you are looking up a Landmark Supreme Court case, such as Roe v. Wade, you may want to use the link provided on the widget to navigate to the Landmark Cases search form.
Make sure when entering the legal citation that the format is correct. You will not get a search result if your legal citation is not formatted properly. See the example provided under the input box.
If you are entering a party name, it does not matter which side of the v. you enter the name on. Roe v. Wade will bring the same results as Wade v. Roe.
To search cases by legal topic, attourney, judge, etc, use the links provided on the widget to navigate to other legal search forms. These forms will allow you to do a more advanced search.
Get Company Info
The Get Company Info widget allows you to get a company profile by entering a Company Name or a Ticker Symbol. Company Profiles include Hoover's Company Records, LexisNexis Corporate Affiliations, Standard & Poors Corporate Descriptions, and Nelson's Analyst Company Coverage to name a few. To do more in-depth Business research, navigate to the "Companies" section on the leftnav bar or click on the "Company Dossier" link provided at the bottom of the widget.
Research Countries
The Research Countries widget allows you to find political and economic information about a specific country. You may select a country from the Country drop-down box and then select a specific source from the Source drop-down box. You may choose:
- Business Monitor International (for International Company information)
- Country Briefings (economic briefings on politics, stock markets, etc. for 32 countries)
- PRS Risk Guides & Service (international business risk analysis)
- Walden Country Reports (basic country information, updated yearly)
- Recent News Stories (news about the country selected)
Note that information about all countries in the drop-down list may not be included in some of the above sources.
Research People
The Research People widget will help you research public figures. Enter at least a last name in the input boxes provided.
If you wish to find general information about the public figure, select "Biographies" from the source drop-down box. However, to see recent news stories that include the person, select "Recent News Stories."
Combined Search
The Combined Search widget is useful when you would like to search a particular topic over different types of content. For example, if you would like to find news articles about Microsoft, but would also like to see their Company Profile, you can find both easily by using this widget. You can search:
- Major US & World news
- Company profile
- SEC Filings
- US & State Legal Cases
- Law Reviews
Use the Date drop-down box to restrict your search to a selected period of time.
