About the Tool

The Bibliographic Exporting tool in LexisNexis Academic is a great way to easily extract metadata from a single document or list of search results. Then, you can use the metadata to create bibliographic citations.

There are three ways to extract this metadata: export to RefWorks (for those with a RefWorks subscription); download in RIS format (to import into other citation tools such as EasyBib, OneNote, and Zotero); and display in MLA, APA, or Chicago style.

Disclaimer: Please note that this tool maps the already existing metadata in the document to the appropriate standard citation field. If the document's publisher includes extraneous or incorrect information in a particular metadata field, the field will appear in our Bibliographic Export tool just as the publisher has provided. Because of this, we advise you to edit and check your citations before using them in your Bibliography Page!

Where to Start

Icon Bar in single document view

The Icon Bar that appears on search results and single documents is the place to start when exporting citations. This bar always appears on the top right corner for documents and search results. Click on the icon that looks like a book (always the fourth icon from the left) to begin exporting your citations.

Export to RefWorks Option

The new Bibliographic Export tool is an extension of the already existing Export to RefWorks functionality. If your institution has a paid subscription to RefWorks, you can continue to export your citations to RefWorks the same way you have in the past:

  • Click the Bibliographic Export icon from a single document or results list
  • A dialog box will pop up with options
  • Select the "Export to RefWorks" option
  • Click the red "Export" button
  • The RefWorks login screen will pop up in a new window
  • Enter your RefWorks login information and continue with the export
