Working with Foreign Language Content
For information about working with foreign-language sources in LexisNexis Academic in general, including notes on spelling and advanced search techniques, see the article on Searching Foreign Language Sources.
Search For
The "Search For" section allows you to input your own key terms. In these search boxes, you can put words or phrases that convey a particular topic. These terms can be in the language of your choice - English or whichever language you have selected. Use the drop-down box to search within:
- Show Title (for transcripts)
- Subject Terms
- Terms that occur at least 5 times
The Search For section also makes it easy to find articles that include more than one topic. For example you can type "George Bush" in one box, then select "AND" from the drop-down box, and type "Iraq" in another box.
Specify Date
One of the most efficient ways to narrow your results set is by specifying the date. If you're researching a current event, try narrowing the date to the last 6 months. If you're researching a past event, use the "Is Between..." option to set the dates yourself. Choosing a time period to search through will change your results drastically. You will be much more likely to find relevant results.
Language
Select a language from the drop-down box to search all of the titles LexisNexis Academic has available in that particular language. You may also select "All Non-English" to search all foreign language news.
Other Options
Your other options are to use the links provided in the "Tip" section. First, you could follow the link to edit your search in the Power Search form. This will let you add document sections and Boolean operators to your search to narrow your results. If you choose to edit your search in the Power Search form, you will be able to use index terms and other techniques described in the article on Searching Foreign Language Sources.
Also, use the "Browse Sources" or "Find Sources" links to navigate to the Source Directory. From there, you can choose multiple specific sources to search within. For more instructions on the Source Directory, click here.
