Education law and the term "school law" is the name given to the branch of civil law that covers the laws and regulations that govern federal and state education, including the administration and operation of educational institutions, school athletics, instruction methods, programs, and materials. This area of law encompasses issues relating to school faculty, staff, and students, including school discipline and discrimination based on race, color, national original, sex, or disability in violation of the Equal Educational Opportunities Act, Title IX of the Federal Education Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act. To find bill texts, select "Legislative Histories, Bills & Laws" from the left-hand navigation bar.
If you know the subject of the bill, select "Bills (Full Text)" from the Keyword Search form and type in a search term associated with the bill. The search can be restricted by sponsoring member, version, or Congress.
If you know the number of the bill, select the "Get a Document" tab, choose "Bills (Full Text)" from the drop-down and enter the bill number in the search box. Make sure the drop-downs for Congress and Chamber are set correctly.
Note that metadata records accessed from the Basic, Advanced, or Search by Number forms that mention bills contain links to bill texts. Bill texts may also be accessed from bill tracking reports.
The text of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 can be found by searching P.L. 108-446 on the Search by Number form. Select the "Find Congressional publications related to a bill or law" task.
The text of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 can be found by searching P.L. 107-11 on the Search by Number form. Select the "Find Congressional publications related to a bill or law" task.
