A common assignment is to research the major news that occurred on your birthday. You can easily do this on the power search form.

# Click "Show" (in the same spot as "hide" on the above picture) to display the Document Section boxes.

# Click on the PowerSearch form
# Select DATE from the Section drop-down box.

# (Optional) Type in a search term if you are looking for a specific topic.
# Type the equal sign and any date you'd like in the terms box. In this case, "=8/2/1982"

# Use the "Specify Date" Drop-down box to select a period of time. Use the "Date Is" option if you would like to find articles from one specific date. A new box will appear where you can input the date. Click the red search button for results.
# Click the link to add this date to your search.

You can also use this function to search all articles before or after a certain date. Simply replace the equal sign with a greater than/less than sign. For example, if you wanted to search for all articles before 8/2/1982, you would type "<8/2/1982" in the Terms box.

This functionality is not just found on the PowerSearch form! Most search forms contain a Specify Date drop-down box.

Follow the instructions below to find news on a specific date by using the Power Search form in LexisNexis Academic.

  1. Click on the PowerSearch form
  2. (Optional) Type in a search term if you are looking for a specific topic.
  3. Use the "Specify Date" Drop-down box to select a period of time. Use the "Date Is" option if you would like to find articles from one specific date. A new box will appear where you can input the date. Click the red search button for results.

This functionality is not just found on the PowerSearch form! Most search forms contain a Specify Date drop-down box.
