Supported Remote Access Methods
Proxy Server
This is the preferred method for remote patron authentication. If you allow only properly authenticated users to log in to your secure proxy server, LexisNexis can add its IP address to your subscription.
Proxy servers may require special configuration to work with LexisNexis resources. Please see the guidelines provided by EZProxy for more details.

LexisNexis RPA Script
If you do not have a proxy server, you may be able to provide remote access using the Remote Patron Authentication scripts developed by LexisNexis. Installing these scripts requires a relatively high level of technical skills. Please see our Remote Patron Authentication page for more details and instructions.
Remote Access Methods Not Supported
The following authentication methods are not supported because they do not provide adequate security to protect the intellectual property of LexisNexis and its content partners.
Referring URL
Referring URL is easily spoofed, so it is not acceptable as an authentication method.
LexisNexis recognizes that libraries have little or no control over the actions of their patrons. Therefore, LexisNexis will not issue an ID to be shared with patrons. We have seen multiple instances of such IDs being posted on the Internet or shared with unauthorized users.
