Searching the World Almanac and Book Of Facts

Sometimes you need a quick fact which is best answered by a world almanac. This can be especially useful when staffing chat reference if you need a quick fact. LexisNexis includes the 2008 edition of the World Almanac and Book Of Facts which is full-text searchable. This publication includes information on “…the economy and business, arts and entertainment, U.S. cities and states, nations of the world, sports, the environment, noted personalities, vital statistics, crime employment, lifestyles, education, science and technology, health and nutrition, and much more” (From the LexisNexis source information for the publication).

1. Choose the Sources tab

2. Choose Reference

3. Choose Encyclopedias & Almanacs

4. Choose World Almanac and Book of Facts

5. Click Ok-Continue

6. Perform your search. For example, type “highest mountain”

The third entry is an article discussing Mount Everest; the highest mountain in the world. Also listed are other mountains throughout the world with their elevations.

Another example is to search for “Crime Rates by Region”
