[edit] About the Congressional Bills & Votes Search Form

The Congressional Bills & Votes Search Form is located on the Legislation section of LexisNexis Scholastic. Use this form to accomplish tasks such as:

  • Find Bill Tracking Reports from a particular Congress
  • Find Voting Records for a specific bill
  • Track the status of a bill

[edit] Search For

The "Search For" section allows you to input your own key terms. In these search boxes, you can put words or phrases that convey a particular topic, like "fire arms." This is useful when you need to browse several articles on one topic. The Search For section also makes it easy to find particular articles you know specific information about. For example, if you need to find articles by a Sponsor Name, type the name in the search box and select "Sponsor Name" from the drop-down box. In addition to a full text search ("Everywhere" in the drop down box,) you may use the drop down box to find articles:

  • by Sponsor Name
  • by Heading & Title

[edit] Congress

Use the drop-down box to select a particular Congress. If you are unsure of the Congress, but know the year of the bill, you will find the years the Congress was in session in parenthesis.

[edit] Status

Use this drop-down box to select the Status of your bill. For example, if you would like to see all bills vetoed by a certain congress, select "Vetoed" from this drop-down box.

[edit] Or Enter Number

Use these boxes to enter a citation number for a specific bill.
